Police detain 93 Vietnamese in Bangkok online gambling bust

At the Makkasan Police Station in Bangkok, 93 Vietnamese citizens were arrested following the discovery of an online gambling operation that reportedly generated over 100 million baht ($2.58 million) in daily profits.

Authorities launched an investigation after multiple complaints about a large group of foreigners living in condominiums and behaving suspiciously. Surveillance revealed mostly young Vietnamese, along with a few individuals from other ethnic groups, moving in shifts to a concealed work area on the ground floor. Entry was controlled by a security guard and access cards, while the area was largely hidden by sheer materials.

Investigation Reveals Sophisticated Gambling Call Center

Police found that the group operated a nearly invisible call center equipped with laptops, computers, and mobile phones. Boxes of multiple SIM cards were purchased locally, and some workers were transported between the condominium and other locations by motorcycles or vans. Complaints from nearby residents cited potential security risks and loud noise from the premises.

During the search warrant execution, authorities discovered individuals at computers and phones, some attempting to flee. Preliminary checks indicated access to online gambling sites offering football betting, card games, and hi-lo styled games, primarily targeting players in Vietnam with payments processed via Vietnamese banking apps.

Criminal Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement learned that workers were recruited from Vietnam, trained there, and arrived in Thailand in February 2026 to process transactions, interact with clients, and manage betting accounts. Each employee reportedly earned around 30,000 baht ($771) monthly, sent back to Vietnam.

Investigators uncovered communication between the group and coordinators in Vietnam, as well as the suspected ringleader abroad. Initial charges of participating in an illegal organization and running an unlicensed online gaming operation have been filed against all 93 suspects, while further electronic evidence and investigations continue to track the network and leadership behind the operation.
