BetMGM fined $100,000 by The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) for violations related to a fraud that occurred in 2023-2024.
BetMGM had deficiencies in its verification processes and allowed individuals to open accounts with stolen identities and fund those accounts using compromised payment sources. BetMGM did not take enough precautions against fraudulent activity, which resulted in the fine.
The PGCB also prohibited 16 individuals from gambling, some of which include incidents in which minors were left unattended in land-based casinos.
This is not the first compliance matter BetMGM has faced in Pennsylvania. Earlier this year, the operator was fined $260,905 for permitting self-excluded players to gamble. The operator has faced other fines in Massachusetts for providing betting markets that are not allowed and marketing to underage gamblers.
This most recent fine demonstrates the continued regulatory scrutiny placed upon operators to increase their KYC controls and reduce fraud on their platforms.
BetMGM chose not to comment on the finding.
