Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that Malaysia will continue strengthening its fight against illegal gambling operations.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar revealed that enforcement authorities have seized assets worth billions of ringgit from unlawful gambling syndicates. He stressed that while significant progress has been made, the fight remains ongoing and increasingly complex.
During the parliamentary session, Anwar highlighted the scale of enforcement activity carried out across the country, noting that raids on illegal gambling networks have resulted in the confiscation of assets totaling billions of ringgit.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that tackling illegal gambling is far from straightforward. Many operators are based overseas, placing them outside the direct reach of Malaysian authorities. In addition, these groups use advanced digital infrastructure, allowing them to quickly shut down and relaunch websites or platforms to evade enforcement.
Beyond enforcement, Anwar emphasised the importance of public cooperation. The government is working to raise awareness about what constitutes illegal gambling under Malaysian law and is encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities. In a country where gambling laws are both strict and culturally sensitive, Anwar positioned public accountability as a crucial pillar of the broader strategy.
The Prime Minister’s message was clear: illegal gambling harms both the economy and society, and the government will continue intensifying its efforts. Despite the evolving nature of online operations, Malaysia remains committed to maintaining pressure through enforcement, legal action, and increased public awareness.
